Importers can turn manufacturers

Image result for beloxxi cream crackerThere are indications that the Nigeria government may sooner or later stop the importation of some goods into the country to boost local production in response to the pressure of local producers and patriotic Nigerians of  which I am one.
My lecturer in the University once asked me, "can importation of some goods fully stop with all these smuggling into the country through our porous borders". I answered that it is possible if importers become manufacturers.
The way to do this is for importers to gather enough information as necessary on that particular business if he/she is financially buoyant enough to start alone or as partners with others. Importer may also suggest a joint venture to the manufacturer to come establish in Nigeria where they can grow more easily especially with the availability of cheap labour. Either ways, we would have taken some people off the unemployment market thereby reducing the number of the unemployed. We would have allowed for the circulation of the naira and such its appreciation until it becomes a recognized world currency (naira is currently not listed in world currency).
When an importer becomes manufacturer, variety will be introduced into the market thereby contributing to economic growth because many sectors will be affected by that singular act, the farmers, the packaging sector, printing press, transport services etc. Take for example, Chief Obi Ezeude of Beloxxi was once an importer of cream crackers, instead of smuggling the cracker into the country, he starter his. Today, he has employed over a thousand Nigerians and currently contributing to the national GDP. www.bakerybazar.com/2010/.../obi-ezeude-ceo-beloxxi-industries-ltd.html. Many examples of such Nigerians who turned from importers to manufacturers abound. Join their league.

Understand Priority!

It is important in life and especially business to prioritize ideas. Some questions that will help us as regard priority includes "when should this idea be implemented?" "Do I have all it takes to implement this idea now, if not, when will I have them?" "Won't it be late to implement this idea in so so and so time?" Etc. Many times, it's difficult to run/implement two or more ideas at a time but through priority we can still achieve them all though at different times. It also prevent tying up of capital and that may even affect both businesses. In priority, it's best to do the easiest first or one in which one has more expertise or one better research. In priority, a schedule is also important. When we ask the necessary questions, it would help us know how prepared we are for every idea we intend to implement less we start and encounter problem not anticipated. Some ideas are best implemented now than allowing them to wait while some are bet...

Prime movers of Agriculture!

It is good that the clamour for Nigerians to return to agriculture from the Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration of 1976 has been sustained by successive government. However, the problem with most of the call to return to agriculture is that those clamouring for such end with the thought of exporting the agricultural produce, this I disagree with. The question is ‘who are the farmers?’ because most times we want everybody to go back to the farm and if I understand what we are saying we are simply encouraging subsistence farming which from age past have never reduce unemployment or increase government revenue. What types of agriculture should we then do?
