It is a general
knowledge that Nigeria imports virtually everything consumed within her
territories with the United States, China and India leading other countries as
source of goods consumed in Nigeria. It is also a general knowledge that we
even import products we can readily produce. As a country that has so much of
agricultural and natural resources, we however export some minute quantities of
our agricultural produce especially to Europe and China.
The problem,
however, is that the goods that leaves the Nigerian borders are usually in the
same way they left the farm. No value is usually added to them thereby reducing
the monetary values as well as foreign exchange value accruing to government.
Also, if we start adding little values to product thereby transferring them
from the primary goods product to secondary goods, we would have succeeded in
creating employment as well as new value chains. It will lead to
diversification of the economic. It will also lead to reduction in our
importation value because we would have produced some of the products we import
into the country.
Every
prospective/active entrepreneur who is into exportation should ensure to check
up the standards for each of the goods they export so as to work towards them.
They should also liaise with some of these foreign partners to add more values
to our agricultural raw materials. Reading up some research material will go a long
way.
The country should also make sure that we ban
goods we have develop capacity to develop as well as make sure that foreign
shopping mail on our soil accept our goods for display. Standard should also be
ensured so as to meet European Union standards as well as other standards. The
standard becomes essential because the European Union has been claiming foul as
pertaining doing business with Nigerians. Once again, add value and get more
dividend of customer’s satisfaction.
